Reduce Stress
In times of uncertainty, it’s hard to control stress levels with so much out of your control. But it’s important you focus on what we CAN control. Focus on your family, friends, home life, and your personal health. Reducing hormone cortisol levels, released during times of stress, is paramount in maintaining good health. Elevated cortisol levels over time can cause weight gain, high blood pressure, disrupt sleep, negatively impact energy levels and impact your mood.
Eat Well
As a society, we’re classically over-fed and under-nourished. We eat more than what we need, but we don’t absorb the nutrients we do need. Choosing foods that have a high nutrient-density is important to maintain a healthy microbiome. Your stomach, also known as your second brain, greatly effects your mood, stress levels, and your body’s immunometabolism. Choose foods that are fresh, local, organic (when possible) and of the plant variety. Reduce things like meats, dairy, and processed foods.
Stay Active
The gyms are closed, but that doesn’t mean we stop exercising! We live in a beautiful natural playground filled with great hiking trails, beautiful beaches, lakes, parks, and don’t forget about those bike lanes! Looking for workouts to do at home? Check-out BPM’s Workout Library on YouTube. So get outside and keep your body moving. One of the best ways to keep your immune system at peak performance is through exercise 😊
Sleep Lots
Sleep is when our bodies recover. It’s when our muscles grow, when our tissues repair, and when our minds get to rest. It’s also one of the best ways to keep our immune systems up!
Keep Social
We live in a connected World. FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, Instagram, SnapChat, Text, or maybe the old fashion phone call are great ways to stay in touch with each other. Connect with your family, friends, and loved ones.
Stay Informed
It’s very easy to get caught up in all the news and misinformation out there. So, stick to credible sources for information about what’s going on in the World to stay up to date and educated. Don’t take hearsay or opinion as gold, don’t get caught up in Facebook posts or YouTube “click bait” – stick to credible sources!
Practice Positivity
We are fortunate to live in a beautiful City, in a beautiful Province, in a beautiful Country. A Country that provides us with so many opportunities to succeed and live a happy healthy life surrounded by nature. Think positive, practice positive self-talk. Compliment yourself. Think of those who care about you and all the good things this World, this City has to offer. If you’re feeling down, get outside, take a walk through Mount Doug, or on the Breakwater and enjoy where you live. 😊
Be Kind to One Another
Ellen DeGeneres put it best. Be kind to one another and treat your fellow humans with respect. Show love and you will get the same in return. If you see someone struggling, help them out.
Above all else, help others. We’re stronger together
